Gardening for Beginners
Welcome to our what to sow in February video from our allotment gardening for beginners UK series. We sow seeds in February so that we can grow food on our allotment and in our home vegetable patch all year round. Knowing what to sow and grow in February is gained from previous years experience and reading what other people are sowing and growing this spring. To germinate seeds in February you will need a heated propagator like the one below.

Growing on an allotment or in a back garden vegetable patch in February requires a little more work as the weather can be very cold in the UK. We have to get our seeds started indoors and hardened off before we can plant them outside. The greenhouse and summerhouse give us extra space for seedlings plus we use our unheated conservatory to home the plants before we are past the cold weather.

Growing and sowing in February gives us a year round harvest from our UK allotment and vegetable garden. We are constantly looking ahead to future harvests by planting seeds now. We will also buy in some vegetables that have grown by others as we make use of local garden centres and growers.
