If you have a new allotment or are new to vegetable gardening then follow our allotment gardening for beginners series for weekly tips on what to grow, sow and plant each month. We aim to improve our self sufficiency skills supplying most of our vegetables in the warmer months and close to being self sufficient the rest of the year too. Growing vegetables can save you money as well as reducing food miles and plastic usage. If we all start with a little then together we make a big difference.
Having an allotment garden is not as hard work as many people imagine. Growing our own vegetables takes a little time but on a regular basis. We rarely spend more than an hour on the allotment but visit it often. We can walk to ours in about 20 minutes so it can fit into our daily exercise routine.
