Gardening for Beginners
Welcome to our February seedlings update from our allotment gardening for beginners series. The seedlings from the seeds we have been sowing in January and February are growing on and we are placing them on a warm window sill.

We have looked at what to sow in February and now we are looking at how to look after those plants that have grown from the seeds. We also have the seedlings from our what to grow in January video.

We aim to be as self sufficient as possible for our vegetables. Allotment gardening for beginners is good fun and we aim to help those who also wish to be as self sufficient as possible to know what to sow and what to grow each month. If you have a new allotment garden then you will be learning more each year. A new UK allotment is popular at the moment and you may have waited a while for it. Let these videos help you get the most from your new allotment UK.

We keep our seedlings on a warm south facing windowsill. The seeds from January and February will seem to be at a similar level soon as this is still early to be sowing seeds. We are not trying to get ahead but trying to spread out the seed sowing so as not to have them all germinating at the same time. We will soon be potting on some of the seedlings and using other rooms in our home to grow them in.

The potatoes are normally in our conservatory but we have shown them on this video too before putting them back out there. They prefer the cooling un heated conservatory as we don’t want them chitting too much. The potatoes have small firm eyes forming and by turning them we can stop them from sprouting too much. We chit our potatoes to promote a small growth before we plant them on the allotment.
