We’re visiting Kristen Rembold’s beautiful garden today.
Hello! It’s 90°F here in Virginia, and the gardens are lush and brilliant. Three of my grandchildren are spending July with us, and they delight in looking for insects, harvesting vegetables, and cutting flowers for table centerpieces. Afterward, we cool down in the pool.
I garden on an urban/suburban acre. I am the gardener, but my husband, Chris, designs and builds stone paths and garden structures, cheerfully spreads mulch, and creates the leaf mold we use in vegetable beds. This garden was featured on GPOD in the spring season about a decade ago (Spring in Kristen’s Garden in Virginia). Since then, we’ve added a screened porch and porch garden, where we like to hang out three seasons of the year.
Given the season and the visiting grandchildren, there are a few raggedy places (hosta leaves, seed heads) that may need to be cropped away (and trimmed by me eventually!), but I included extra photos to give a better sense of the garden.
Lots of shrubs mixed with the perennials mean reduced maintenance and a garden that looks good all year.
Gorgeous hostas (Hosta hybrids, Zones 4–9) lie under a Japanese maple (Acer palmatum, Zones 5–9).
Lots of summer blooms, including lavenders (Lavandula, Zones 5–8) on the left that smell so refreshing on a hot summer day.
Coneflowers (Echinacea purpurea, Zones 4–9) bloom around the shrubs here.

What a beautiful garden! Thanks for letting us visit again, Kristen.
